A KC-135 Refuels a Flight of F-4s

Obviously early in the War in Southeast Asia, these F-4 Phantoms have not yet been repainted with camouflage.  The KC-135s had been designed to offload much of their fuel to a single strategic bomber, such as the B-47 and B-52. Even though a KC-135 could refuel several tactical fighters on a single mission, the single boom for refueling wasn’t very efficient.  Later tanker designs tried to incorporate a capability to refuel more than one aircraft at a time.
