A KC-135 Refuels a Flight of F-4s
Obviously early in the War
in Southeast Asia, these F-4 Phantoms have not yet been repainted with
camouflage. The KC-135s had been
designed to offload much of their fuel to a single strategic bomber, such as
the B-47 and B-52. Even though a KC-135 could refuel several tactical fighters
on a single mission, the single boom for refueling wasn’t very efficient.
Later tanker designs tried to incorporate a capability to refuel more
than one aircraft at a time.
