1967 TET Truce at Quang Khe

This sequence of three photographs of Quang Khe illustrates the North Vietnamese efforts during the truces.  Quang Khe is located at the mouth of the Song Giang River on the North Vietnamese coast, northeast of the Ban Karai Pass.  Photo No. 1 shows the bombed-out naval facility a few days before the 1967 TET truce.  Although trucks entered the area at night to be shuttled across the river on small ferryboats, American air presence over the area during the day virtually eliminated the daytime use of the area.

100093 USAF Photo #6

A focal point for much of the waterborne traffic was the area of Quang Khe, located on the mouth of the Song Giang River. As observed on 29 January, prior to TET, when subjected to routine aerial surveillance, the areas was heavily bombed and appeared inactive. The former naval base had been destroyed earlier and there was no evidence of movement associated with the Quang Khe ferry which provides transit across the Song Giang River.
