A
significant change in the level of activity was observed at Quang Khe during
the period of TET. On the morning of 9 February at 1020 hours, local time,
numerous vessels of varying sizes and configurations were detected in the
estuary. The Quang Khe ferry was in operation and was transporting cargo
trucks. More importantly, light cargo ships had arrived and were observed
anchored off-shore Because of their size, these relatively large vessels could
not approach the shallow gradient beach area. Small river craft provided for
the unloading and loading of these vessels,- and for the movement
of cargo to and from the shore. The smaller coastal vessels were able to reach
the shore and
were docked at two small piers. Large numbers of containers were observed
along the beach. Numerous trucks were detected moving in and out of the area.
