NKP’s Officers Club
Captain Victor “Pappy”
Yoakum stands on the east-west road that passed between the Officers Club and
the Invert radar site (behind the photographer).
Pappy was one of the navigators who came TDY to the 23rd
TASS to fly night missions using the Starlight Scope to hunt trucks over the
Trail. Again note how cleared out
everything is here in 1967. We
returned in 2000 and a little of the flooring of the club was left in place.
The area beyond the club was totally overgrown with jungle, as was the
road where it continues on to the right of this picture.
I think the buildings along the right edge of the picture were the
trailer complex where the Nimrods lived.
If you look through the trees on the right, you can see the karst
mountains of Laos just beyond the Mekong River about 8 miles east of the air
base.
