Thanks for the Memories
With his special combination of
girls, gags, and a golf club, Bob Hope produced a December afternoon’s break
from the rigors of combat and from the special loneliness of a holiday season
spent thousands of miles from home. He,
and his troupe, brought comforting reassurance that there indeed were
Americans at home who still cared that we were fighting a war in a far-away
land.
For some men in the audience
that day at the Harley-Smith-Wolfe Amphitheater, the Bob Hope Show brought the
last real contact with home. Before
New Year’s Day, five of NKP’s fliers were lost in an A-26, a T-28, and an
A-1 over Steel Tiger.
