Khe Sanh from the Air - August 1967

Seen beneath the rockets beneath my Bird Dog’s right wing, you can see the US Marine Base at Khe Sanh, South Vietnam sitting on the plateau above the river canyon.  The runway ran pretty much east-west, so you can see the higher terrain to the northeast of the base.  Higher terrain also overlooked the base west and southwest of the base. The main compound is on this side of the runway nearer the west end.  Our birds sat in pits along the runway on the opposite side.  The waterfall referenced in A Certain Brotherhood drops into the canyon near the lower center of the picture.
