O-2 Skymaster in Flight

Beginning in mid-1967, the O-2 Skymaster began phasing in as the main FAC aircraft.  The 20th and 23rd TASSs, which had the missions deep over enemy territory in North Vietnam and Laos, were the first FAC squadrons to receive the O-2.

From NKP I went TDY to the FAC School at Binh Thuy AB in the delta of South Vietnam for a one-week, 10-mission checkout in the O-2. Upon returning to NKP, I remained dual-qualified for several weeks, flying combat missions in the O-1 and the O-2.  In late October, I flew an O-1F from NKP to Danang, then on to Nha Trang to exchange for an O-2, which had been ferried over from the states.
