The Wing is Formed for the Star
Spangled Banner
A regular part
of the pre-game pageantry at Falcon Stadium is the marching on of the Cadet
Wing. Once formed, the Cadet Wing
Commander presented the wing to General Ralph Eberhart, who had traded in his
US Space Command hat on Tuesday, 1 October, to become commander of the
Northern Command, the newly formed command in charge of the
US
military role in homeland security.
In one of those
you-have-to-be-there experiences, ruffles & flourishes were followed by
the playing of the Star Spangled Banner. The
combination of more than 40,000 voices singing the national anthem is muted,
almost reverential. I suspect the
singing would be louder if not for the lumps in thousands of throats that
block some of the words. It’s an
experience that those who want to blame
America
first will never understand.
